The 25 automatic discounts limit

Shopify allows 25 active automatic discounts per store, counting every app's and every manually created one. When your store is at the ceiling, activating a Hype offer fails with this banner:

Shopify allows up to 25 active automatic discounts per store, and this store has reached that limit. Deactivate an automatic discount in Shopify, then activate this offer.

The banner carries two links: About automatic discounts, which opens Shopify's documentation, and Open Discounts, which opens your store's Discounts page in a new tab.

This is Shopify's limit, not Hype's. Hype cannot raise it.

What happens to your offer

The offer is saved as a draft — nothing is lost. If you hit the limit while creating a brand new offer, Hype takes you to the saved draft rather than making you retype it. Once you free a slot, use Actions → Enable on the row.

How many slots Hype uses

This is the part worth knowing before you start deleting things.

Every bundle on your store shares a single automatic discount named Hype Bundle Discount (Do not delete). Running one bundle or fifteen costs you the same one slot. Volume discounts are different — each one owns its own Shopify discount, so ten volume offers cost ten slots.

If you are near the ceiling and want more offers, consolidating volume discounts (one offer covering a collection instead of five covering a product each) buys you more room than anything else.

How to free a slot

1. In your Shopify admin, go to Discounts.
2. Filter to Automatic and Active.
3. Find one you no longer need. Look for expired seasonal promotions and test discounts first.
4. Open it and either deactivate or delete it.
5. Return to Hype and use Actions → Enable on your draft offer.

Deactivating is enough — the limit counts active discounts, not all of them.

Do not delete these

Two entries in your Shopify Discounts list belong to Hype:

• Hype Bundle Discount (Do not delete) — the shared discount every bundle prices through. Deleting it turns off the saving on every bundle at once. Its name says so for a reason.
• Any discount named after one of your volume offers.

Both are managed by Hype. Edit them from the app, not from Shopify's discount editor — changes made in Shopify will be overwritten the next time the offer is saved.

If you delete the shared bundle discount by accident, re-saving or re-activating any bundle recreates it.

Discounts other Hype apps create

If you also run Hype Discounts, Hype Upsell or Hype Cart Drawer, their offers create their own automatic discounts and count toward the same 25. The Discounts page in your Shopify admin is the only place that shows the true total.

A related error

Shopify also reports the ceiling when an app's discounts overlap in an unsupported way. Hype shows the same banner for both cases, and the fix is the same: free an active automatic discount slot and try again.
