Sold-out products and inventory

A product with no in-stock variant that your bundle allows is marked Sold out in the block and can never be added to the cart. What that looks like depends on the style, and whether it blocks the whole bundle depends on whether the product is required.

What "sold out" means to Hype

Hype looks at the variants a product is allowed to contribute — that is, all its variants, or the narrowed set you chose with the edit icon on the product row. If none of those variants is in stock, the product counts as sold out.

That means a product can be sold out to your bundle while still being buyable on your store: if you narrowed the bundle to the Blue variant and only Blue is out of stock, the bundle treats it as sold out.

What each style does

Fixed bundle — Showcase and Lineup. The sold-out product's row is tagged Sold out in place of its variant chip, and the block's add-to-cart button is disabled. The set is fixed, so one missing item blocks the whole bundle.

Frequently bought together — Bought together and Add-ons. The sold-out extra cannot be ticked. The rest of the offer still works. If the page's own product is unavailable, the add-to-cart button is disabled.

Mix & match — Quick pick. The sold-out tile cannot be picked. The shopper fills the slot from the rest of the pool.

The rule is enforced twice

Even if a block somehow offered a sold-out item, the add would be refused: Hype resolves a variant only to an in-stock one, and an add that cannot be resolved is aborted with an error rather than partially completed. Bundle adds are all-or-nothing — you will never get a cart holding half a bundle.

The "Sold out" text

The label is editable. On the first wizard step, open Text & translations and change the sold-out strings for the block. If you leave them blank they read Sold out. Translations per locale are edited in the same panel.

What to do about it

A fixed bundle keeps going out of stock. Consider replacing the fragile component, or switching to Mix & match so shoppers can substitute.

You narrowed variants too far. Open the bundle, click the edit icon on the product row, and widen the allowed variants — or set it back to All variants.

Shopify is still selling it. Hype respects the product's inventory as Shopify reports it. If the product continues to sell when out of stock, check whether Continue selling when out of stock is on for that variant in Shopify.

Inventory and the hidden bundle product

Activating a bundle creates a hidden wrapper product in your catalog: unlisted, priced at $0 and published to the Online Store. It exists only to be the head of the merged cart line and carries no inventory of its own — a bundle's availability comes entirely from its components. Do not delete, unpublish or track inventory on it.

Known gap

The Bundle builder styles do not carry the sold-out flag yet. Bundle builder is not offered on the create page today, so this affects nothing you can currently set up.
