Mix & match

Updated Sep 10, 20264 min read

Mix & match lets customers fill slots from product pools you define — "pick any 3 tees", "one top and one bottom" — and prices whatever they pick as one bundle. It renders on the product page as a Quick pick widget, and the picked products merge into a single cart line.

Create one

  1. From the home page, click Create offer, then Choose on the Mix & match card.
  2. In Bundle categories, set up the first category:
    • Category name — what the shopper sees above the slot, for example Tops.
    • Min picks (0 = optional) — the fewest products the shopper must take from this category. Set 0 to make the category optional.
    • Max picks — the most they may take.
    • Add products — the pool the shopper chooses from. Use the edit icon on a row to narrow which variants are offered.
  3. Click Add category for each further slot group. A bundle with one category is fine — that is the plain "pick N of these" case.
  4. Fill in Bundle product name. This is shown as the bundle line in the cart and at checkout.
  5. In Show on, choose which product pages the widget appears on.
  6. In Bundle pricing, choose the Discount type and value, and fill in Discount name. See Pricing a bundle.
  7. Save, then Next, set placement on the Blocks step, then Finish.

How the categories work

Each category is an independent slot group. The shopper must take at least Min picks and at most Max picks from it before the bundle can be added.

Some patterns:

GoalCategories
Pick any 3 from one poolOne category, min 3, max 3
Pick 2 to 4 from one poolOne category, min 2, max 4
One top and one bottomTwo categories, each min 1, max 1
A required base plus an optional extraTwo categories: min 1 / max 1, and min 0 / max 1

The same product can appear in more than one category. Hype checks the shopper's actual selection against your rules before merging the lines, so a selection that does not satisfy them is never discounted.

Style and variant picking

Mix & match has one storefront style, Quick pick: pick-N slots filled from a product list on the product page. Because there is only one, no style cards are shown.

You still choose how shoppers pick variants, under Variant selection:

  • Inline picker — a variant selector appears on the item once it is picked, so the grid stays legible.
  • Popup on add to cart — a popup asks for variants before adding.

Where the shopper is not asked, Hype uses the first in-stock variant your narrowing allows.

Where it appears

Show on takes Specific products, Specific collections or All products. Because the widget is a product-page block, it mounts on the product pages you name — the shopper builds the bundle there rather than on a page of its own. Placement on the page is set on the Blocks step.

What the customer gets

Adding the bundle adds exactly the products the shopper picked, tagged as one group. In the cart and at checkout those lines merge into one line titled with your Bundle product name, with the saving crossed out and labelled by your Discount name.

Limits worth knowing

  • At least two lines have to be added for a merge to happen. Rules that can be satisfied with a single product will not produce a merged, discounted line.
  • Sold-out products cannot be picked. A product in a pool with no in-stock allowed variant is not selectable. See Sold-out products and inventory.
  • One price for the whole selection. Pricing is a single discount on the merged bundle, not per category.
  • Category names can be A/B tested but the products and pick counts are shared across variants — they are part of the deal, not the presentation.
  • Bundles are always automatic. There is no discount-code option.

Coming soon

Bundle builder — the same category model as a guided, full-page flow, one step at a time or as one scroll with a running total — exists in the product but is not offered on the create page yet.
