Pricing a bundle
Updated Sep 10, 20263 min read
Every bundle type is priced in a section called Bundle pricing on the first wizard step. You pick a Discount type, enter a value, and name the discount. The saving is applied to the whole merged bundle line, not to individual products.
Volume discounts are priced differently, in Quantity breaks — see Volume discount.
The four discount types
Percentage discount — a percentage off the bundle's total. The value field is labelled Percentage off. Enter 20 for 20%.
Fixed discount — a flat amount off the bundle's total. The value field is labelled Amount off.
Set price — the price the bundle should cost. The value field is labelled Bundle price. Hype works out the saving from the components' combined price.
No discount — the products are grouped into one cart line at their normal price with no saving. There is no value or discount name to fill in, because no discount is created.
Naming the discount
Whenever a discount is applied, a Discount name field appears next to the type. Its help text says it plainly: this is the label shown next to the crossed-out price at checkout — for example Bundle & save — not the bundle's name.
Do not confuse it with Bundle product name, which titles the merged cart line and lives with the products further up the form.
Per-market amounts
Fixed discount and Set price are money values, so they can differ by market.
- In the Target markets section, tick Customize amounts for each market.
- Click into the value field. A modal opens with a row per market.
- Set the value for each market you want to override. Markets you leave alone use the default value, converted at checkout.
Percentage discount is a single number and applies everywhere unchanged.
How the saving scales
If a shopper adds two of the same bundle, the discount is applied twice — Hype counts how many complete, valid bundles are in the merged line and prices that many. A partial group is never discounted.
Some rules the pricing follows:
- A percentage is clamped to 0–100.
- A fixed amount is never more than the line's subtotal, so a bundle cannot go negative.
- A Set price that would raise the price is skipped rather than applied. If your set price is above what the products cost, the shopper simply pays the normal total.
Choosing between them
Percentage is the safest for a bundle whose contents can change, and for stores with several currencies — it scales on its own.
Set price is the clearest to the shopper ("The kit is $99"), but it needs revisiting whenever component prices change, and it silently does nothing if it lands above the component total.
Fixed discount sits in between: a concrete "$20 off" message, but a fixed amount that means different things as the bundle's total moves.
No discount is for grouping without a saving — presenting a set as one tidy cart line.
Editing the price later
Open the bundle, change the value and click Save. An active bundle updates in place; you do not need to disable it first. The change reaches the storefront when the cache refreshes, within 10 minutes, or immediately after Settings → Cache → Clear Cache.
Carts assembled before the change keep whatever was in force when the shopper added the bundle until the cart is rebuilt.
