Hype Bundles

Volume discount

Updated Sep 10, 20263 min read

A Volume discount gives quantity breaks on the products you choose: buy 2, save 10%; buy 3, save 15%. It is the one offer type in Hype Bundles that is not a bundle — nothing merges, no wrapper product is created, and the shopper's own cart lines are discounted at checkout.

On the home list it appears with the Kind column set to Discount rather than Bundle.

Create one

  1. From the home page, click Create offer.
  2. Choose Volume discount · Tiles or Stacked volume discount. You can change the style later.
  3. In Applies to, pick the scope: Specific products, Specific collections or All products. A new offer starts on All products so the preview renders right away.
  4. In Quantity breaks, set each rung. Every row has a Quantity, a Discount type (Percentage off or Amount off) and a Value. Click Add quantity break for more rungs; the delete icon removes one.
  5. Fill in the Offer name near the bottom. It is shown internally and as the discount label at checkout.
  6. Save, then Next, set placement on the Blocks step, then Finish.

A new offer starts with three breaks: 1 at 0%, 2 at 10%, 3 at 15%.

How the breaks work

  • Each quantity break must use a different quantity — duplicates are rejected when you save.
  • The highest break the shopper qualifies for wins.
  • A 0% break is allowed and is useful: it gives the block a plain "buy 1 at the regular price" rung with no savings badge, so the discounted rungs have something to compare against. The block preselects the first real break. A 0% rung never becomes an actual discount at checkout.
  • Amount off is applied once to the qualifying group, not per item.

The two styles

Pick under Storefront style.

Tiles — quantity options side by side, one tap to compare.

Stacked list — quantity options as rows with prices and savings notes.

Applies to does two jobs

The Applies to section sets both which products get the quantity breaks and which product pages show the selector. There is no separate Show on control. Placement on the page is set on the Blocks step — see Where bundles appear.

Combinations

Volume discounts have a Combinations section, which bundles do not. Tick the discount classes this offer may apply alongside:

  • Other product discounts
  • Order discounts
  • Shipping discounts

This is Shopify's own combining behavior. Both discounts must allow each other's type — ticking a box here is only half the agreement.

Automatic or code

The Method section at the bottom of the first step offers:

  • Automatic: applies at checkout on its own — the default.
  • Discount code — a real Shopify discount code, with usage limits and an optional share link of the form https://your-store.com/?hypecampaign=<slug>. Anyone opening that link has the code applied for them.

Bundles do not have this choice; they are always automatic.

Volume discounts and bundles together

If you run both, the volume discount deliberately skips merged bundle lines. Without that, an "All products" volume offer would discount the merged bundle line on top of its bundle discount. You do not need to configure anything for this.

Limits worth knowing

  • Each volume discount uses one of Shopify's 25 automatic discount slots. Ten volume offers cost ten slots, whereas all of your bundles together cost one. See The 25 automatic discounts limit.
  • No merged line. The cart shows the shopper's normal product lines. The saving appears at checkout under your Offer name.
  • Amount breaks apply once per qualifying group, not to each item in it.
