What counts as an order
Updated Sep 10, 20263 min read
An order counts toward your Hype Bundles tier when it was created during the current 30-day billing cycle, it is paid (fully or partially refunded still counts as paid), it is not cancelled, and it did not come from point of sale.
The rule in full
| Counted | Not counted |
|---|---|
| Orders created inside the current cycle | Orders created in an earlier cycle |
| Orders whose financial status is Paid | Orders that are Pending, Unpaid, Authorized, Voided or Refunded |
| Orders that are Partially refunded | Orders you have cancelled |
| Orders from your online store and other sales channels | Orders whose source is point of sale |
| Orders that never touched a Hype offer | Test orders, on a live store |
Two consequences catch people out, so they are worth stating plainly:
Every paid order counts, not just the ones Hype influenced. The tier is set by your store's order volume in the cycle. An order that used no discount, no bundle, no upsell and no cart drawer still counts. This is deliberate: it is a number you already know, it does not depend on attribution, and it cannot be argued about.
Cancelling orders does not lower the tier. The count is taken as the cycle runs, and the tier only moves up. Cancelling or refunding orders later in the same cycle does not bring it back down — see Busy months and tier changes.
Point-of-sale orders
Orders whose source is Shopify POS are excluded from the count entirely. If most of your volume is in-store, your Hype tier reflects only your online side.
Refunds
A partially refunded order still counts — the customer paid, and part of the money came back. A fully refunded order no longer has the paid status, so it drops out of the count from the moment the refund is recorded. It does not, however, undo a tier your cycle has already reached.
Development and test stores
On a Shopify development store, Hype's subscription is created as a test subscription: approvals and usage records are real but Shopify never charges anything. On those stores, test orders are counted, so that you can exercise the tiers while you evaluate the app. On a live store, test orders are excluded.
Where the number comes from
Hype asks Shopify for the count with a single query against your Orders — the same data you see in the Shopify admin. It does not read individual customers, line items or amounts to produce the figure.
You can reproduce it yourself. In the Shopify admin, open Orders, filter to the date range of your cycle, and filter the payment status to Paid plus Partially refunded, excluding cancelled orders and POS. The figure should match the Plan page.
When the number does not appear
If Hype cannot read your order count when the Plan page loads, the page still renders and shows prices at the Free tier, with a note saying so. It does not guess. The right tier is applied automatically once billing runs again, so nothing is lost.
